Atascadero hit and run suspect in custody after police pursuit

Police arrested a hit and run suspect after a police pursuit and foot chase in Atascadero.

Police were dispatched to a report of a crash in the 12100 block of Viejo Camino on Thursday evening.

Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle in the Curbaril and El Camino Real area.

When police spotted the vehicle, the driver took off at a high rate of speed northbound on El Camino Real.

After a police pursuit through the San Anselmo area and back south through the city, the suspect identified as 24-year-old Rafael Aguilar Anguiano, got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.

A K-9 team from the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office, CHP helicopter and Atascadero police located the suspect in an apartment on Bocina Lane.

Anguiano is being booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on several charges including felony no-bail warrant, hit and run felony evading.
