Santa Barbara man paralyzed in weekend fall

The Santa Barbara community is rallying to help a local resident who was critically injured in a fall this past weekend.

Friends have organized a GoFundMe account for Wyatt Dennett, who remains in Cottage Hospital’s ICU with severe back and spinal cord injuries.

Hospital staff confirmed that Dennett remains in critical condition.

The GoFundMe site describes how Dennett fell more three stories from a deck. Sources who know the Dennett family said the incident happened at a home in Montecito. Dennett underwent extensive spinal surgery, however, according to the posted information, he remains paralyzed from the shoulders down.

A Santa Barbara resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said as of Wednesday morning, Dennett was experiencing some feeling in his chest and upper shoulders. The site states that doctors are cautiously optimistic.

According to Dennett’s Facebook account, he is a student at Santa Barbara City College and attended Santa Barbara High School. He played baseball and was known for his infectious smile.
