District Attorney charges suspect in September 2018 Oxnard hit-and-run with murder

–UPDATE–

Oxnard police investigators with the Major Crimes Unit have arrested 33-year-old Gerardo Miguel Rodriguez-Grajeda, of Oxnard, in connection with the killing of another Oxnard man.

The Oxnard Police Department says investigators arrested Rodriguez-Grejada at the Ventura County Jail on Oct. 18, 2018, and charged him with the homicide of 23-year-old Jorge Gonzalez Tejada.

Rodriguez-Grajeda was already in jail at the time of his arrest on other unrelated charges, according to authorities. He will remain at the Ventura County Jail on a $750,000 bail.

Authorities say Rodriguez-Grajeda intentionally struck Tejada with his car at the intersection of Fifth and Meta streets after both got into a fight in the west alley of the 600 block of S. Oxnard Boulevard next to El Miramar Bar nightclub. Tejada was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Detective Miguel Serrato at 805-385-7688 or leave an anonymous tip at 805-982-7070.

The DA adds Rodriguez-Grajeda is also being charged with vandalizing the Oxnard Police Department’s office window for an incident that occurred on the same day of the deadly crash on Sept. 23.

Rodriguez-Grajeda’s arraignment was continued to Nov. 13, 2018, in Ventura Superior Court.

Police have ruled a deadly hit-and-run that occurred on Sept. 23, 2018, at the intersection of Fifth and Meta streets to be a homicide.

This is Oxnard’s 13th homicide of the year.

At about 2:35 a.m. on Sept. 23, police officers were dispatched to reports of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. They found the victim, 23-year-old Jorge Gonzalez Tejada, lying in the intersection. Tejada was taken to the hospital but ultimately died from his injuries.

During the police investigation, authorities say they found out Tejada had been involved in a fight minutes before he was found in in the intersection of Fifth Street and Meta Street. They say it’s believed the fight started in the west alley of the 600 block of S. Oxnard Boulevard next to El Miramar Bar nightclub.

Oxnard police say they believe there are several witnesses to the argument that took place based on the location where the altercation began. Investigators learned that Tejada was intentionally struck by a white Jeep Cherokee SUV, which authorities later located. However, police have not yet identified a suspect in this case.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this homicide is urged to call Detective Miguel Serrato at 805-385-7688 or the Violent Crimes Hotline at 805-982-7070.
