Legendary Santa Barbara photographer evicted from his home

A legendary artist is nearly homeless after being evicted from his home and his stuff thrown outside.

Photographer Scott Price rummages through his belongings, separating what he wants to keep with what he wants to throw away. Price was evicted from his home of 20 years on Tuesday for not paying his rent on time.

In April 2018, the landlords told Price that he had sixty days to leave. Price asked for an extension and the landlords obliged. After two months of not paying rent, the landlords filed an unlawful detainer against Price.

Price admits the rent was below market value but had a hard time making payments due to a decline in sales of his art. Price says he saw a decline in sales with the rise of the internet in the last ten years.

Price says he was unsuccessful to appeal the detainer because he was scammed by two fake law firms.

On Tuesday the landlords threw all of Price’s belongings outside on the lawn and locked the door.

“Because of the housing bubble in Santa Barbara, it is really difficult to try to move in two months. Anyone that has lived here for any length of time knows that. That is why there are so many people here living in their cars,” said Price.

Price currently lives in his van near Goleta.
