Wildfire and Drought Mitigation Town Hall Meeting

WildFire is always a concern in Santa Barbara County. A townhall meeting Monday night with Congressman Salud Carbajal, fire, and water experts were on hand to discuss the resources available when disaster strikes.

“Unfortunately we have year-round fire season now.. so we have to be ready year round. I want us to be better informed so we can be prepared to mitigate and prevent future disasters,” said Carbajal.

Three local experts answered community questions and provided updates on a number of topics, including increasing fuels management funding, federal recovery resources through FEMA and legislation Carbajal is working on to help our water infrastructure.

Tom Fayram, Water Resources Deputy Director of County of Santa Barbara, Eric Peterson, Chief, Fire Department of County of Santa Barbara and Nic Elmquist, Deputy Fire Management Officer with Los Padres National Forest are among the experts that attended.

The goal was to hear directly from local residents about their concerns and share ideas on policy to help keep our community safe and prepared for future natural disasters.
