Amtrak sees more train riders during Thanksgiving Weekend
As millions of Americans sit in traffic to get to their Thanksgiving destination, train riders are thankful for a less stressful trip home.
Amtrak knew there would be a surge in customers this holiday weekend, so it added more trains to its Pacific Surfliner routes and additional seats. Riders also had to reserve their tickets in advance.
“I’m trying to go to LA and I’m meeting an old friend from home. She’s going to pick me up and we’re going to go to Palm Springs,” said Makayla Domingo, a Santa Barbara City College student from Hawaii.
Domingo considers herself lucky because her train wasn’t delayed.
Amtrak sent out messages to its customers through its social media platforms, informing them of train congestion. Some passengers waited for as little as 30 minutes to more than an hour as promised.
