Churchill Jewelers is closing in Santa Barbara after 98 years

One of the oldest businesses in Santa Barbara is closing after nearly 100 years.

Churchill Jewelers on State Street says it’s time to turn out the lights.

The store opened 98 years ago.

A letter to customers says the just announced closing sale coincides with the retirement of the owner Lexi Kern. Signs on the windows say many items will start on sale at 60 percent off.

The store features fine jewelry, gemstones, necklaces and Rolex watches. Kern called the closure “bittersweet” and also said the sale will be brief.

Churchill Jewelers is at 1015 State Street and moved there in the 1950’s from another location on the same block.
