Local Students Enjoyed Educational Concert By Santa Barbara Symphony

Thousands of local students enjoyed a free educational concert Thursday afternoon performed by the Santa Barbara Symphony.

The Granada Theater was jam packed full of Santa Barbara County elementary students. Nearly 2,600 kids from 33 different schools had the pleasure of experiencing live classical music from the Santa Barbara Symphony.
For many of these fourth-, fifth-, and sixth- graders it was their first time listening and witnessing classical music.

“It’s introducing them to the concert experience and bringing them into the theater and letting them feel like they belong here and they can do this on their own or with their parents, and it’s also brings music in schools in a manner that is not a traditional music classroom”, said Amy Williams, the director of education at Santa Barbara Symphony.

At the end of the performance was a musical treat. John Williams, who is considered one of the greatest film composers of all time, took front and center stage as his famous “Star Wars” soundtrack was played.

The Santa Barbara Symphony has been introducing the musical wonders of an orchestra to elementary students for more than 50 years.
