Police Offer New Year’s Eve Safety Tips

Santa Barbara Police Sgt. Riley Harwood offered some common sense safety tips prior to New Year’s Eve. Harwood said the old saying “there is safety in numbers” proves to be true. He said if you go out with a group, designate a driver who will not have any alcohol. He also advised drinkers not to take a beverage from anyone except your server or bartender.

Santa Barbara police will step up enforcement in the downtown corridor on Wednesday night. There will be more officers in patrol cars and on bikes. They will also have nightlife officers on foot.

Police said advise staying away from parties where fireworks or firearms are used. They are both illegal.
