Showers Turned Off at Some Santa Barbara County Beaches
Santa Barbara County is turning off outside showers at several beaches to save water during the prolonged drought.
Many people with sandy toes, getting in a final washing, were not too disappointed.
They said, it will be alright to vacuum their cars a little more and rinse at home instead.
“We’re in a drought, it makes sense. People can dry off in the wind and it’s a nice day and go home and rinse off there a little bit,” said Matt Love, a beach visitor who took a quick shot of water from a remaining shower at Hendry’s (Arroyo Burro) Beach.
A county notice said:
“A total of five outdoor shower locations are affected; three showers at Jalama Beach, one at Goleta Beach and one each at Arroyo Burro, Lookout Park and Rincon Park beaches. This action is just one of several water-saving measures being implemented by the Santa Barbara County Parks Department.”
Signs about water conservation have been posted at many county locations.
Showers were still working at Goleta Beach during a morning check.
They were off at Lookout Park in Summerland.
One resident Heather Wright said rinsing the sand and then taking a shower at home afterwards is not really necessary. “If somebody needs to take a regular shower they can do it at home and pay for their own water bill,” she said.
