Eighth ‘Serve Santa Maria Day’ to Makeover a Home in Need

About 20 Santa Maria church groups are gearing up to participate in the eighth ‘Serve Santa Maria’ day to be held on Saturday and they need more volunteers.

The community wide effort brings together around 200 people.

Serve Santa Maria started in 2010 and has grown to a twice a year beautification event.

Several businesses donated or sold items for half price.

It’s funded by the Santa Barbara foundation.

This year’s projects include planting bushes and grasses in a new planter near the Santa Maria Lawn Bowl, spreading bark chips at Preisker Park, landscaping at Sanchez and Liberty Elementary Schools, picking up litter and the home makeover.

For the first time volunteers started on the home beautification project several weeks in advance.
