SLO Sheriff’s Deputies Nab Fugitive in Early Morning Raid

A pre-dawn raid under the pounding of a CHP helicopter and a flash bang helped San Luis Obispo sheriff’s deputies nab a fugitive Thursday morning in Atascadero.

Marc Steele was taken into custody at a home on the 7000 block of Portola Road about 5 a.m. Spokesman Tony Cipolla confirmed that no shots were fired.

Cipolla said the 38-year-old Atascadero man had three active felony warrants, including assault with a deadly weapon for intentionally ramming his vehicle into a sheriff’s patrol vehicle in December of last year.

Sheriff’s investigators believe Steele was armed and using a video surveillance system at the home.

Multiple agencies assisted in the raid.
