A fire broke out early Tuesday morning at a vacant residential building in Lompoc. The space, at 1005 East Ocean Ave., had been converted into a business.

According to Lompoc City Fire Battalion Chief Kurt Latipow, authorities received a call arrived on scene at 1:19 a.m. Crews worked fast and were able to completely knock down the fire by 1:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, the first responding unit witnessed smoke and after a forced entry, discovered a fire towards the rear end of the building contained to one room. No one was injured.

The fire is under investigation due to its suspicious nature, having occurred early in the morning in an abandoned building, officials said. As of last Monday night, there were no witnesses.
