Miami Dolphins player sentenced in Isla Vista assault

A Miami Dolphins linebacker appeared in a Santa Barbara courtroom on Wednesday to face assault charges.

A judge reduced the charges against Nawa’akoa Misi from a felony to misdemeanor battery with serious bodily injury.

Misi will now spend the next three years on probation. The charge stems from a fight at an Isla Vista apartment in April 2011. Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s officials said Misi broke down a door and punched a man.

Misi must attend anger management counseling, perform community service, avoid contact with the victim and stay away from Isla Vista.
