Man and dog killed

Ventura County sheriff’s deputies say they shot and killed a man after he shot and killed a dog.

It happened in Fillmore around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Officers say a witness reported seeing the man with a gun in his belt outside Mountain Vista Elementary School.

The witness took down the man’s license plate number and deputies traced it to a home on Blaine Avenue.

That’s where officers found 33-year-old Josue Jimenez holding a gun in the front yard.

Deputies shot Jimenez after he opened fire.

But when they went to offer aid they realized Jimenez had fatally shot a pitbull nearby.

Jimenez was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Officers say they also found weapons in his car.

Jimenez had a prior record that included gun violations.
