Train Routes to Get More Fencing for Safety

Union Pacific says it will be adding more fencing to the train corridor in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties to keep transients and other pedestrians from getting on or near the tracks.Work will take place soon and be finished by the end of the year.This area has been a troublesome spot for both freight and passenger trains due to on going issues with trespassing.Javier Sanchez with Union Pacific says the key areas where improvements are planned will be in Guadalupe, Camarillo and Oxnard. Sanchez says there’s been a targeted effort to clean out homeless camps and cut down the over growth along the train route. Adding fencing is also part of the safety effort.Earlier this year, $8 million dollars worth of upgrades were done to the railroad tracks in the two counties.
