Sailboat Hazard Sends Vessel to the Recycling Center
Crushed and gone to the recycling center. That’s where a boat that went aground at the end of May in Montecito has ended up.After a large white sailboat was beached, the fuel was drained by a special crew, to reduce the chance of a leak or an environmental danger to the ocean. But when the owner did not retrieve the vessel, after weeks, the county called it as a hazard.Marborg Industries came out at the lowest tide of the day yesterday with heavy equipment and a large dumpster to break up what was left of the boat and haul it to their Santa Barbara recycling center. If the vessel remained on the coast, it could have shattered on the rocks creating a serious risk to those who use Butterfly Beach and the near shore waters.
