Two People Under Arrest After Shots Fired In Isla Vista

Two people are in custody after gunshots were fired early Saturday morning in Isla Vista. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of multiple shots fired along the 6500 block of Sabado Tarde just before 1:15 a.m.

Officers set up a perimeter and several units inside the apartment complex were evacuated. Nearby residents were advised to stay inside their homes. Officers say a man, identified as Thomas Christensen, crawled out of a window of the apartment complex.

A witness identified Christensen as the person in possession of the gun. He was taken into custody for shooting a firearm with gross negligence and carrying a loaded firearm. Another person, identified as Brett Harris, refused to come outside when officers asked him. A Special Enforcement Team was called to the scene.

Officers deployed two flash bang grenades to get him out. Harris was taken into custody for resisting arrest and obstructing or delaying a peace officer. Both were booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail.

Christensen’s bail is set at 35,000 dollars. Harris’ bail is set at 2,500 dollars. Several handguns and related ammunition were recovered from the residence and booked as evidence. The scene was cleared just before 7 a.m.
