Rescue Mission Serves Up Feast

Since 1965 the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission has served up a Thanksgiving feast for hundreds. On Wednesday afternoon, around 300 people sat down to homemade turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and cranberry sauce. Members of the Rescue Mission’s recovery program cook all the food. Not only did they spend Tuesday preparing, they started back up in the kitchen at 4 a.m. to finish the feast.

“We’re serving it restaurant style. People can sit down and we will gladly bring them as many refills as they want on things. We just want them to leave happy and well fed and understand how special and how much we care for them,” said Rescue Mission President Rolf Geyling.

Students chipped in for Wednesday’s lunch as well. Santa Barbara Junior High, Franklin Elementary and Boy Scout Troop 26 donated canned food and pumpkin pies.
