SANTA PAULA, Calif. - A bear attacked a man in the unincorporated area of Santa Paula on Saturday.

It happened around noon near Aliso Canyon Road.

The man was working at a local ranch when he was attacked. He was treated and released for minor injuries, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is investigating the attack.

The Sheriff's Office says animals, like bears, are likely to live near ranch properties and orchards. Because of that, they encourage people living and working in these areas to be aware and to avoid direct contact with any animal.

If you do see a bear, you are encouraged to call the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Additionally, here are some tips on what you should not do if you are attacked by a bear.
