$11.7M State Grant Launches New Family Village Near Goleta

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – A new state investment is moving forward to help establish a family housing village at the Calle Real county campus near Goleta.
The new Family Village will provide housing for families working to get back on their feet.

“This is the newest project The Calle real family village that will permanently. How’s families moving from homelessness,' said housing programs manager Lucille Boss of Santa Barbara County.

The Family Village will include 30 units for parents and children in need of stable housing.

DignityMoves is leading the project, expanding its work in Santa Barbara County.

“Each of the units will have restrooms, kitchens, dining area areas, a real home for the families," said executive director Jack Lorenz of DignityMoves.

The effort comes as Santa Barbara County continues to see high rates of child poverty.

“I am thrilled beyond words Santa Barbara County has one of the highest rates in of childhood property in the state of California. The county of Los Angeles has a bit better poverty rate for children than Santa Barbara county so for us to be able to begin to change the demographic to make that difference is unbelievably exciting," said Lorenz.

The project is part of ongoing efforts to expand interim housing options across the county.

Construction is expected to begin in the coming months.
