SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Summer camps are in full swing throughout Santa Barbara.

Hundreds of kids are on their “A game” this summer.

After all, they’re doing what they love.

They're going to camp.

"Well, we got beach camp here third year in a row … it’s a fun and exciting way to take kids out there on the paddleboard’s. Show them all the ocean has offered one starfish jellies, floating by," said instructor Joseph Evers, known as Lobster Jo of Lobster Jo Beach Camp.

This year the Santa Barbara Parks and Rec Department has kids enjoying 20 camps including  ceramics camp, lobster Jo’s beach camp, skate camp, nature camp and more.

"Summer is so fun, but so many kids need fun, active and positive summer camp participate within skate camp as it is a long-standing tradition in this community. This is one of the coolest state parks in the state of California so they get exclusive access with our amazing staff," said acting recreation supervisor Vincent Savelich of the Santa Barbara Parks and Rec Department.

The ceramics camp is so popular that spaces filled up in a matter of minutes.

"This is the most popular parks and rec program and I think it’s sold out in nine minutes we have … so it’s kind of a nice complement to a lot of technology," said instructor Catherine Vallance of the ceramics camp.

Parks and rec staff said there are still plenty of openings at several camps this summer.

Camp instructors said perhaps one of the best parts for kids at these camps … is making friends.

"Exactly that’s another she saying it’s a major social connection coming down and meeting friends at the skate park and then especially with Cavs Cavs are always a great place to meet new friends," said director Holden Corrigan of the skate camp.

If your kids still want to sign up for camp, Lobster Jo said, you better hurry.

In order to ensure children of all abilities can enjoy a summer camp experience, inclusion services are available.
