Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office report new coronavirus outbreak in Main Jail

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. -- Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office reports additional COVID outbreaks in the main jail on Friday.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating a COVID-19 outbreak that began on October 31.

On October 31, two inmates in the West Module tested positive for COVID-19.

The Sheriff's Office says so far since that date, there have been eight active cases with one of the inmates testing positive during the intake screening process.

The eight inmates are being closely monitored by the medical staff and are isolated from other inmates for 14 days.

All other inmates in the West Module were tested for COVID-19 on November 2. Additional testing will be performed on November 7 and 10. The inmates were recently tested on Wednesday and Friday.

County Sheriff's Office says they are working with Wellpath and Public Health to address the outbreak and to re-evaluate plans for health safety within the Main Jail.
