Fifth person in Santa Barbara County dies from COVID-19

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - A fifth Santa Barbara County resident has died from COVID-19, according to the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department.

The individual was a North County resident in their 70s. The person had no underlying medical conditions, public health officials said.

This latest death comes less than a week after an inmate serving time at the Lompoc Prison died after testing positive for the deadly disease.

As of Tuesday, there are 429 cases of COVID-19 in Santa Barbara County including 53 health care workers and dozens of inmates at the Lompoc Prison.
