First death from COVID-19 reported in Santa Barbara County

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - Santa Barbara County has now seen its first death from COVID-19.

The person was a North County resident in their 60s with underlying health problems, according to San Luis Obispo County Public Health Officer Dr. Henning Ansorg.

The news was announced Wednesday during the county’s COVID-19 press briefing.

In addition to the first death, Ansorg confirmed that 12 additional people have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Ansorg also confirmed that the county is looking to add an alternate care site in Lompoc at the old Lompoc hospital. The county may also look into additional alternate care sites if needed.
