SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Rotary Clubs of Santa Maria and Nipomo announced on Saturday that their annual Parade of Lights event has officially been canceled due to the pandemic.

“This year would have marked our 26th year of hosting the event,” said event Co-Chair Mike Gibson, “and we are profoundly disappointed that we had to take this action in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The 2020 Parade of Lights was scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5.

Members of the Rotary Clubs said they hope to host the event next year on Dec. 4, after the pandemic has been resolved.

“What makes this so disappointing is that if there ever was a year the community needed this event to kick off the holiday season, 2020 was the year,” Gibson said.

The Rotary Clubs said community members will be able to apply to be in the 2021 Parade of Lights starting early October of 2021 on the parade's website.

This annual Christmas parade is one of the ways Rotary Clubs serve the local and international community.

Past parades have been broadcast on KCOY NewsChannel 12 for viewers to enjoy from home.
