Motorcyclist dies following head-on collision on Highway 1 south of Lompoc Wednesday
LOMPOC, Calif. – One Lompoc resident has died after a traffic collision on Wednesday between a 2015 Yamaha motorcycle and a 2022 Tesla Model S on Highway 1 less than a mile south of the exchange with Highway 246.
The name of the 23-year-old motorcyclist and Lompoc resident has not been publicly released.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) detail that a 23-year-old Lompoc resident was traveling southbound on Highway 1 on their yellow and black Yamaha YZF-R1 at a speed greater than 55 miles per hour as they approached a right curve.
According to CHP, the motorcyclist entered the opposing lane of traffic as they navigated the turn and collided head-on with a blue Tesla Model S that was heading northbound on Highway 1 resulting in fatal injuries for the motorcyclist and minor injuries to the other driver.
