Advisory level heat and wind expected into Thursday
The inland heat is the headliner once again, with little relief from the heat in the forecast. Temperatures remain warm and above seasonal average for the time being, especially for interior areas because of a ridge of high pressure that has parked itself over the region. The strong onshore flow is keeping coastal temperatures closer to normal because of the presence of the night to morning cloud cover.
Inland highs will be in the upper 90s and triple digits on Wednesday, with much milder conditions along the coast. Coastal high temperatures will range between the 60s and low 80s. The Heat Advisory that was set to expire Wednesday night has been extended and will now expire Thursday night at 8pm. This Advisory is for inland areas, including valleys and mountains, for San Luis Obsipo County, Santa Barbara County, and Ventura County. Temperatures between 90-105 degrees is possible during this time.
Gusty northwesterly winds are in the forest, with projected wind speeds prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Wind Advisory for Santa Barbara County's Southwestern Coast. This goes into effect Wednesday evening at 6pm and will expire at 3am Thursday morning. Wind speeds will be between 15-30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
The heat is here to stay into the weekend, with a slight cooling trend expected for early next week for inland areas. The coast remains protected from the worst of the heat by the patchy cloud cover and marine influencer.
