Toasty, potentially dangerous heat this weekend

The heat way is well underway, with the hottest conditions felt away from the coast. Inland heat will peak Friday and Saturday, while the marine influence keeps coastal temperatures warm, yet comfortable in comparison. This is a prolonged heat wave that will linger into early next week.

The sweltering, and potentially dangerous heat has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a series of Heat Alerts. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the Santa Ynez Valley and Ventura County until 11pm on Sunday.

Temperatures up to 104 degrees are expected. The Heat Advisory for San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County's interior valleys and mountains has upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning. It will be in effect until 10am Monday. Avoid spending time outdoors unless absolutely necessary, drink plenty of water, and seek shade or air conditioned areas. Temperatures up to 114 degrees are expected, with elevated fire danger and an elevated risk of heat illness possible during this time. Following the Warning, an Excessive Heat Watch will be in effect all day Monday.

Highs on Saturday will primarily be in the 90s and triple digits inland, with coastal temperatures ranging from the upper 60s to the low 80s. Temperatures remain toasty, with some relief in the forecast for next week.
