UCSB Arts and Lectures kicks off 64th season of performing arts

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UCSB Cultural Series is attracting visitors everywhere.

"I would love to be able to participate in coming to most all of them. Oh my gosh look at we have a classical violinist. And I want to introduce my grand daughters to classical music ... most important thing we can do," said visitor Nina Richert.

The cultural series offers performances by world class artists from around the globe.

"We have almost 50 events to choose from everything from dance to spoken word and environmental series to family programs … performing arts of all kinds … community programs. For example ... features Midori ... many others," said associate director Meghan Bush of the UCSB Arts and Lectures Program.

The series will involve a variety of venues including the Lobero, the Granada  and more.

"Not only have performers on stage we bring the performers into the community into classrooms in the community centers everywhere," said Bush.

Other highlights include talks by today's thought leaders to command performances by some of the world's premier dance companies, actors and musicians.

"Something jazzy ... Oh, and then they have the Spanish dance Kristin the sex she’s gonna be doing a really beautiful performance of dance," said Richert.

"My hope is that people will take a chance on some thing they haven’t heard of because I promise you it is always an amazing experience and you won’t regret it," said Bush.

The season kicks off on Sunday, October first.

"Excited for grandma I’m really excited. I hope we can get to see quite a few of them this summer, especially," said Richert.
