Joey Vergilis
Joey Vergilis joined the KEYT News Channel 3-12 team in April 2023 and currently serves as a morning and midday producer and anchor, while also lending his versatility to the sports department. In addition to his work in the newsroom, Joey can often be found calling games for Pepperdine University Athletics on ESPN+, providing both play-by-play and color commentary.
Before arriving in Santa Barbara, Joey was a host and sideline reporter for Bally Sports West, where he created and hosted his own show, “Joey Back on Campus,” which ran for two years. He also co-hosted Prep Zone Live, covering standout high school athletes and programs across Southern California.
Joey’s path in sports media began behind the scenes. He gained valuable experience as an assistant producer for live game broadcasts of the LA Kings, LA Clippers, Anaheim Ducks, and Los Angeles Angels. He also worked as an editor on Bally Sports West’s weekly magazine-style shows, sharpening his storytelling and production skills.
A proud graduate of Cal State Northridge, Joey holds a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Media Studies.
Since moving to the Central Coast, Joey has fallen in love with Santa Barbara’s energy and community — especially the incredible work being done at Santa Barbara Humane, where passionate volunteers and staff care for local animals. He’s also made it his mission to explore every great coffee spot from Carpinteria to Goleta.
When he’s not in the newsroom, Joey enjoys producing music with friends, playing basketball, running, hot yoga, working out, and spending time with his fiancée.
