Fire breaks out near Lookout Park in Summerland
A fire broke out near Lookout Park in Summerland around 9 p.m. Saturday.
The fire burned less than an acre and could be seen from the freeway.
Around 20 firefighters helped fight the flames before they spread.
“Luckily it’s in the evening, there’s no wind behind it. But just a good example of how dry our vegetation is here, to have a fire at this time of night, right next to the water, just shows you how dry everything is,” said Fire Chief Mike Mingee of the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire District.
The blaze started when an illegal campfire at the nearby beach got out of control.
No injuries were reported.
