Puerto Rico: Hot destination as summer travel plans return

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Ready to travel this summer? Many Americans are. And with about a quarter of the US population vaccinated the travel industry is expecting to roar back.

Americans are restricted from entering many countries for nonessential trips and many countries that are open to US travelers still require a mandatory 14 day quarantine. For now, the best bet is to travel within the United States, according to best selling author of the 30-Day Travel Challenge Kaila Yu.

If you’re looking for a tropical vacation this summer she says Puerto Rico is open to responsible travelers and since it’s a US territory, you will not need a passport to enter. Yu says you should be fully vaccinated before traveling and Puerto Rico requires that you show a negative COVID test before entering - even if you are vaccinated.

2. Be a Manatee Caretaker for a Day - At the The Manatee Conservation Center in Puerto Rico, you can sign up to be a manatee caretaker for a day.
3. Visit Fort San Geronimo - This fort was built in the 18th century to defend the city of San Juan from Attacks from Sir Francis Drake in 1595.
