Oxnard shooting claims life of 32-year-old man

Oxnard police detectives are investigating a shooting that killed a 32-year-old man.

It happened Saturday at 9:27 p.m. on the 3000 block of Merced Place in the Lemonwood neighborhood.

Officers received reports of shots fired in the area. When they arrived, they found a 32-year-old Hispanic male with several gunshot wounds.

First responders began administering lifesaving measures, but the man died at the scene.

On Monday, the man was identified as Richard Madera, 32, of Oxnard. His cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound of the torso.

They are investigating the crime as a homicide, making Sunday’s death the 11th homicide in the city this year.

The Oxnard Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the deadly shooting to reach out to Detective Jake Jundef, at 805-385-7680.

The department offers up to a $10,000 reward for any information that could lead to an arrest in a homicide case.
