Ventura County Public Works upgrading streetlights to energy efficient LED lights
VENTURA, Calif. -- Ventura County Public Works will be replacing streetlights with energy efficient LED light starting Tuesday.
Ventura County Public Works Agency and Southern California Edison worked together to replace existing high pressure sodium vapor lights with energy efficient Light Emitting Diode, or LED, lights to more than 2,400 street lights.
The new lights will exude a warm white hue that the County says is safer for both people and wildlife.
Rudy Gonzales, the Government Relations Manager at SoCal Edison says these new lights will provide better vision and safety while still helping cantina a dark sky environment.
He also says the new LED lights will last much longer, save in energy and save in cost along with minimize light pollution.
The bulbs are Dark Sky Compliant meaning they will direct more light to the ground than the sky.
The project will go on for the next three to four weeks.
