Lompoc prison inmate dies after being hospitalized for COVID-19

LOMPOC, Calif. - The Bureau of Prisons reported that an inmate at the Lompoc prison who had tested positive for COVID-19 died on Friday.

The Bureau said 66-year-old Oliver M. Boling went into respiratory failure on Sunday while at the United States Penitentiary (USP) in Lompoc.

Boling was evaluated by medical staff at the institution before being transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

While at the hospital, Boling tested positive for COVID-19. The Bureau said that his health declined and, on Tuesday, he was placed on a ventilator. They also confirmed that Boling suffered from long-term, pre-existing medical conditions that made him more susceptible to a severe case of COVID-19.

On Friday, hospital staff reported that Boling had died.

Boling had been sentenced in the Superior Court in the District
of Columbia to a 71-year and 6 months sentence for sodomy and assault with a deadly weapon, prison breach, petit larceny and armed robbery. He had been in custody at USP Lompoc since May 7, 2018.
