GOLETA, Calif. - Goleta City staff hosted an interactive Community Update Meeting to discuss Goleta’s Homelessness Strategic Plan on Wednesday.

The meeting was held at the Goleta Valley Community Center.

The City said over 50 community members and representatives from a variety of organizations attended and learned more about the steps being taken to craft the City’s Homelessness Strategic Plan.

Attendees were asked to provide input on the plan. The City said the feedback they recieved at the meeting will be added to the outline and brought before City Council at their next meeting on Tuesday, March 3.

This year, the City will devote more than $100,000 on specific efforts to address homelessness.

Goleta Mayor Paula Perotte said, “Addressing the issue of homelessness has been an important priority for the City for a long time. The Homelessness Strategic Plan is an opportunity to enhance and focus the work the City is already doing and will be used as a roadmap to help the Council prioritize and guide funding efforts in the area of homelessness.”

A previous meeting was held in December 2019. During this meeting, a community survey was released which gathered 430 responses. The City said they appreciate the community’s involvement and input in this process thus far and look forward to continued engagement during this important effort.
