Overnight mountain party broken up by Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - A holiday weekend party that drew a very large crowd to a mountaintop was broken up by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies were notified about 4:30 a.m. Monday morning of the group in the East Camino Cielo area known as the "Glass Factory."
A patrol unit contacted those at the site and told them to disperse. Some were intoxicated and were warned to get rides and not drive.
The California Highway Patrol was also notified to assist.
Multiple vehicles were seen by residents coming down from that location in the pre-dawn hours.
It's unclear if any arrests were made or if violations at the site took place.
The Glass Factory location is known as an open shooting range with targets that, over time, have included bottles, TVs and car parts.
Some of the residents in the area have complained about trash, drugs, and dangerous driving in this area. Evidence has been provided to law enforcement and, on many occasions, the site has been closed off for large-scale cleanups by volunteers and the U.S. Forest Service.
