Morro Bay police arrest man for public intoxication and assaulting a peace officer
MORRO BAY, Calif. - A man was arrested after an alleged public fight for public intoxication and violently resisting a police officer, grabbing at the officers gun during his arrest.
Morro Bay police received a 911 call around 9:35 p.m. on Tuesday reporting two men fighting near the Tidelands Park boat launch area.
Officers dispatched to the 300 block of Embarcadero Road and found a man lying face-down on the boat docks near the boat ramp area. The man was reportedly wet and having difficulty breathing.
The suspect, 33-year-old Justin Porter was seen standing directly over the man and began yelling and screaming when an officer attempted to provide medical aid to the man on the ground.
Porter reportedly grabbed the officer and an altercation began. During the struggle, Porter fell into the bay and was quickly removed from the water to be arrested. Police said no injuries were sustained by either party during this struggle.
Porter's rampage didn't end there however, police report Porter was being put into the back of their patrol vehicle when he began to violently resist. At one point, Porter even grabbed an officer’s holstered firearm. Fortunately, the officer was able to safely retain his firearm in his holster during the altercation.
Testing later helped police determine that Porter was intoxicated and under the influence of drugs.
Porter was transported the the San Luis Obispo County Jail. He again sustained no injuries from his actions.
