SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - A special film that takes you to the front lines and also off duty with paramedics will be shown Wednesday at the McHurley Film Center in Santa Barbara.

The movie "Into the Unknown" takes you out on 911 calls and into the personal lives of those responding to life saving incidents.

It was produced by actors and Randy Mantooth and Kevin Tighe. Mantooth died recently in Santa Barbara.

Some of the scenes will show split second decisions that are often part of a paramedics front line job.

Santa Barbara City Fire Chief Chris Mailes says the cameras went around with crews for a year.

Mailes said, "you will see the genuine care and compassion of the pre-hospital care responders and you will see not only how they handle their on duty, but it does fully affect their off-duty." Mailes is a former paramedic and says "first responders, they say, see two to three hundred life-altering incidents in their career."

Prior to the 7 p.m. film there will be a presentation about the role of paramedics as a first responder and how that has grown tremendously since the 1970s.

There will also be a question-and-answer session with the filmmakers afterwards.

The film center is at 916 State St. in downtown.
