SBIFF McHurley Film Center Now Showing a New Marquee

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – The long awaited new marquee is now in place and lit up at the McHurley Film Center in downtown Santa Barbara.

You might recall when the theatre was remodeled and reopened as part of a major advancement for the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) last February, the old marquee at the downtown site was too broken to fix.

This one has a fresh design in line with the theatres overall look.

That includes white lights underneath the marquee as the movie fans enter the doors and into the lobby which as similar lighting, and a "red carpet" arrival feel.

It is expected to be a brilliant fresh addition to the lineup of downtown theatres.

SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling says, "it is very exciting that the construction is done, the funding is coming and the marquee has finally has arrived. We want this to be an iconic place in downtown and a beacon and with the lights and the marquee. Now we are here."

The McHurley film center has five auditoriums with state of the art screens and sound systems.

If you want to seen the new marquee and some films this weekend in addition to the normal line up, Toy Story 3 will be free Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

There will also be special Halloween weekend 9 p.m. showings of the classic scary thriller The Shining both tonight and tomorrow night.

The SBIFF and McHurley Film Center also includes the Riviera Theatre in the non-profit that continues to grow through many partnerships, grants, and small and large community donations for years. Some of these contributions fund year-round educational outreach to students.
