Month-Long Labor Dispute in Solvang Ends As Tentative Deal Announced

SOLVANG, Calif. (KEYT) - The City of Solvang and Teamsters Local 986 have reached a tentative labor agreement, resolving a contract dispute that resulted in a recent four-week work stoppage.

Members of Teamsters Local 986 have approved and ratified a contract, sending the measure to the city government for final approval.

The settlement ends a nearly monthlong labor impasse between the municipality and its staff.

With the tentative contract signed by union bargaining representatives, both city officials and union leadership stated they will focus on rebuilding their working relationship and resuming regular operations.

Solvang Mayor David Brown expressed optimism about the settlement and thanked those involved in the negotiations.

Both the city and the union acknowledged city employees for their daily service and dedication, while also thanking local residents, businesses and visitors for their patience during the labor dispute.

The Solvang City Council is scheduled to consider the tentative agreement for formal ratification at its Oct. 26 meeting.

The city will make the full terms and details of the contract public at that time during the council's review.
