Mentors and Tutors Sought in Presentation by the Police Activities League to Santa Barbara Young Professionals

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - The Police Activities League in Santa Barbara did an outreach to the Santa Barbara Young Professionals Club this week and is coming away with more mentors and tutors.

Known as the PAL program, the non profit creates positive life opportunities for young people.
It is not funded by the city and funds are raised by the community to pay for activities and career opportunity events.
Police officers also work with the kids both on and off the job Including going on field trips with them.
The Young Professionals were introduced to the program to help with events going forward.

PAL Executive Director Judie Lugo said, "We have a 100 percent graduation rate. It is a big deal for us right now. School just started. So around this time, we have youth that have gotten behind. I can tell you right now, every youth that has come to PAL is not behind on homework. They have all completed their assignments and passing their classes.."

The PAL program is also getting set for the annual Trunk or Treat Halloween event for kids.
And for the holidays there will be a dinner and gifts for all the members and their families.
PAL is also supported by the city Parks and Recreation Department and has its headquarters on Chapala and Victoria street downtown.

The Santa Barbara Young Professionals meet monthly for networking and social outreach, and at each session, a local non profit makes a presentation.

There will also be a holiday gala in December.
