Body of missing person found at Lopez Lake

LOPEZ LAKE, Calif. (KEYT) - The body of the person who went missing late Sunday afternoon in the water at Lopez Lake was found early Monday afternoon.

Around noon, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office Underwater Search and Recovery (Dive Team) located the victim in the area where the Arroyo Grande Arm of the lake connects with the Wittenburg Arm.

As of 1:30 p.m. Monday, the Sheriff's Office has not released any personal information about the male victim other than he was 24 or 25-years-old.

The Sheriff's Office is attmpting to notify the victim's family before releasing additional details about the victim or what happened.

According to the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department/CAL FIRE, the victim fell into the water before 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Later in the evening, the Sheriff's Office took over the search from the fire department and continued until recovering the body on Monday.

While the search was ongoing, San Luis Obispo County Parks, which operates the Lopez Lake Recreation Area, closed the launch ramp for all recreational boating.

The park does remained open for other uses, such as camping, hiking, shoreline fishing and other activities.

With the search now complete, the lake is once again open for full use.
