SANTA BARBARA, Calif. The steps at Mesa Lane leading to the beach below are not 1,000 steps. However, that area is eroding and dangerous to navigate.

In the meantime, Dr. Keller says the area is ripe for a deep earthquake which will obliterate the entire West Coast.
