Animal Emancipation of S.L.O. protests to encourage “vegan” gift shopping on Black Friday
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Animal rights advocates held a protest in in San Luis Obispo this afternoon.
Animal Emancipation of San Luis Obispo picketed in front of Mr. Michael's leather clothing store.
The group is trying to raise public awareness of the clothing industry's continued use and sale of items made from the skin and fur of animals.
A new state law this year bans the manufacture and sale of any new fur items sold in California, but organizers say there is still a lot of work to be done.
Not limited to leather and fur products, the group of advocates seeks to inform the public of the other clothing industries that utilize byproducts of abused animals.
“We just want to better inform people that skins from animals, these animals suffered if people are wearing leather or wool. And also the feathers from geese and ducks that animals suffer tremendously. I don't think people realize that. And so we really want people to understand that they can buy wonderful vegan items, plant based items that no animal suffered for,” says Penny Koteen, director of Animal Emancipation S.L.O.
