Tracking our first wave of heat, Monday June 3rd

A significant heat dome sets up southwest of the California coast, Monday. This means temperatures begin to warm inland and near the beaches. The heat will be felt in the interior while the marine layer keeps the temperature difference to a minimum near the coast. Highs climb into the 70s near the beaches while the interior warm into the 90s and triple digits. Valleys will warm variably, into the 70s and 80s depending on how long the marine layer sticks around in the morning.

As the heat dome travels over Southern California, it brings triple digit heat with it Tuesday. Beach and coastal areas will warm depending on marine layer development. Expect to see highs in the 70s near the beaches! This is the first heat wave of the season and it will have us feeling like summer during this first week of June!

An Excessive Heat Watch goes into effect for the interior portions of San Luis Obispo starting Wednesday morning and expiring Thursday. It's important to practice heat safety and to avoid working outside as temperatures will climb into the upper 90s and even past 100 degrees. Our rollercoaster temperatures begin their decline as we head into Thursday and Friday. We cool back into the upper 60s and low 70s near the beaches and 80s and 90s inland. June Gloom returns as well, some areas may see very slow clearing while valleys will see sunshine by the middle of the day. It will be a great weekend to be outside, although clouds impact our mornings!
