Insurgents attack security facilities in southwestern Pakistan, killing 6 people

QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) — Officials say a group of insurgents armed with rockets and guns have killed four members of the security forces and two civilians in southwestern Pakistan. It was apparently in retaliation for strikes by Pakistan earlier in January on what it said were insurgent hideouts in Iran. The military said Tuesday that nine insurgents were also killed in the ensuing shootout. The outlawed Baluchistan Liberation Army quickly claimed responsibility for the attacks. Authorities initially said the attacks, in Mach district in Baluchistan, were foiled without casualties. But officials and the military later said four soldiers and two civilians were killed when militants stormed security facilities and fired multiple rockets.
