Goleta postal facility focus of federal investigation
It may come as a surprise to some but one area not impacted by the shutdown is the post office.
However, a different type of problem is plaguing the postal facility on South Patterson Avenue in Goleta.
NewsChannel 3 has confirmed with the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (DOL) that federal agents are investigating the local facility.
NewsChannel 3 received word that the case involves “serious violations,” a “toxic environment,” as well as hazardous vehicles that have not been properly maintained; substandard exhaust systems, bald and frayed tires and mold inside carrier cabins are among the allegations.
The DOL sent the following statement to NewsChannel 3:
“We can confirm that the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration is conducting an investigation into this matter. This is an open case and we cannot provide any more information or details at this time.”
USPS is funded solely by sales of products (stamps, etc.) and services, not tax dollars from citizens, which is why mail carriers are not impacted by the ongoing government shutdown.
