Rick 'Buddy' Wolin dies at the age of 70

GOLETA, Calif. - Most people knew him as Buddy because Rick Wolin was a friendly fixture for almost 40 years at the Dos Pueblos Little League fields.

Buddy passed away at the age of 70 after battling bone cancer.

Despite some disabilities, Buddy lived independently for most of his life and loved sports.

He attended UCSB sporting events and loved to watch Dos Pueblos High School play football, basketball and baseball. He also was a huge Los Angeles Dodgers fan.

But he was most passionate about DP Little League where he was an assistant coach and cheerleader for all of the players in the league.

He loved rooting and encouraging the kids and everyone knew his "Charge" cheer.

It wasn't opening day until Buddy had his turn at the mic.

Because of his unconditional love of so many ballplayers, several Goleta families always made sure Buddy had a ride to practices and the games.

They all took turns having dinner with Buddy, usually his favorite tacos.

Buddy made sure DP Little League was a field of dreams for the kids.
